One of the oldest perfume companies in the world. Founded in 1770 by
the Cleaver family, taken over by William Yardley, a maker of fashionable
swords in the early 19th century when he rescued his brother-in-law from
bankruptcy.
Acquired by the Beecham Group (part of British American Co
in 1966) sold in 1990 to Wasserstein-Perella: went bankrupt; bought by
Wella Group in 1998; hence no Royal warrant.
