Established by Aaron Page at Park Street, Grosvenor Square, London in 1793 ; a hairdresser, perfumer and distiller of eau de cologne; business passed onto his son William then onto his son-in-law Francis Henry Breidenbach on his marriage to his daughter Emily. Francis Henry Breidenbach had been born in Cologne, did his training in Paris; was bestowed a Royal Warrant in 1841; moved to New Bond Street in 1852 and to Burlington Arcade in 1900.
In 1916 family name was changed to Bryden, as a German sounding name was not advantageous during the War.
Business sold to Eugene Rimmel Ltd in 1930.

Brocard Association, The(Брокар)  Russia and Paris Henri Brocard went to Russia after his father Athanase Brocard’s failed attempt to strengthen and further develop his own cosmetics- and soap- making family business in France and later in the U.S. The competition there was too strong, yet Russia, with its aristocracy and its emerging luxury-craving bourgeoisie, seemed to be a vast and highly attractive market. He established his own factory on Moscow’s Nikolskaya street in 1861: The Brocard Assotiation; began by producing mass cosmetics merchandise, merchandise was supported by clever and humorous advertising: people. Very successful most likely helped by his wife, Charlotte Ravey, who grew up and studied in Russia, but was actually of Belgian descent, helped him a great deal, since she was familiar with the peculiarities of life Russia and the psychology of the Russian customer. Started to produce high-quality cosmetics which caught the interest of the royal family and quite soon the factory became the official supplier to her Royal Highness Alexandra Fiodorovna, the wife of the last Russian tsar Nicholas II. Later added fragrances to its list of products. The merchandise won numerous prestigious awards on various shows and fairs, such as the ones held in Nizhny Novgorod, Russia and even Paris, France. Company nationalised after the 1917 Revolution.
